A little insight...

Tom Kemp – potter, and brush calligrapher based in rural Devon

The summer of 2022 was a great one for us at PMM. We managed to finally secure a date to film with Tom Kemp (after our initial meeting with him earlier in the year).

From the moment we discovered Toms work online and from reading about his practice, we knew he would be great to collaborate with!

What we wanted to gain from this filming project, was a greater insight into his work, the story behind his art, and what drives and pushes him to create the pieces that he does. We learnt so much from this trip, and as you can see from the final video, he is a master of his craft

27th Oct 2021: &Tomorrow – a client testimonial

  • Who are you, what’s your company and what do you do?

We are &tomorrow a contemporary faux floral company, specialising in bespoke arrangements for the interior design industry.

  • Who did you hire to produce video content?

Parallel Motion Media

  • Why did you hire PMM in particular?

Steve’s vast technical knowledge and industry client experience enabled him to understand our very rambled brief, pick it apart and deliver exactly what we were after, even when we didn’t really know what we were after!

  • What was your reason for wanting video ?

We wanted to show our audience a small snapshot of our abilities and process, whilst also evoking our brand essence visually. One of our challenges, as with most creative businesses I feel, is showing our Clients the background and work that goes into the final product. So, we felt video would capture this for our audience to see

  • What were your requirements?

We wanted a short format film to show in our social and eventually our website. Steve then offered small clips, perfectly cut for Instagram which is our main platform. We were so glad for this advice as these really captured our audience and gave us more content from the same shoot.

  • Did PMM deliver?

Yes! So helpful on set, I am not particularly confident on camera and Steve really helped us develop our styling to suit the frame and also gave loads of direction, so I moved in the best way for the camera

  • Were your needs met?

Absolutely, we can’t wait to work with PMM again and build this into our future marketing budgets

  • Has video helped your business?

It’s really engaged with our audience. I think being able to present ourselves and let our clients see us in action has been invaluable in attracting and converting new customers.

  • Have you seen an increase in customers?

Our website traffic and sales have increased, as well as our new project inquiries

  • Had the video reached far beyond your initial demographic?

Yes, as mentioned previously presenting ourselves and our abilities on video reached beyond our word-of-mouth orders. Which, so far, as a young business have been our main source of business. But I think it’s really important for new clients and customers to be able to engage with you and your offering to put a face to the name and see you in action.

  • What has the video done for your business?

As I’ve mentioned we were existing with word of mouth, but now we’ve begun to see an increase in new audiences and expand our reach. Which is great and so important for our growth

  • Would you recommend PMM and why?

100%. So personable and friendly, whilst bringing such amazing experience and producing beautiful, tailored film making.

  • How are PMM different to other video companies you’ve dealt with in the past?

We felt really at ease, were never made to feel silly when trying to describe what we wanted and trying to feel confident putting ourselves and our brand out there.

  • Any final words

You won’t regret investing in PMM!

How exciting – We have just been awarded the ‘Most Innovative Designer-Focused Video Production Studio – UK’

21st Oct 2020: Digital reach during the Covid crisis

As a business in 2020, it is easy to see how meeting face-to-face with potential clients and customers is becoming forever more of an issue. Lockdown 2020 and the restrictions that are constantly changing due to the unpredictability of the current pandemic, has meant that many companies have struggled to conduct business in the usual standard or ‘traditional’ way of meetings in person.

The current pandemic has certainly raised many concerns and many issues. One thing we have learnt is that businesses need to think outside of the box in order to be seen and to be heard. They need to work out ways to reach their customers, potential clients, buyers and investors, differently. As a business, there are so many ways you can do this with the use of video production. You may be looking for content to post on your social media platform, on your website, or perhaps something to stream online at a virtual exhibition to showcase your services that you have to offer.

An example this would be a recent project we completed for Ruppenthal, a trade-only diamond and gemstone brokerage based in Hatton Garden, London. We were hired to film a studio/workshop tour video, exploring the vast range of products they have to offer, as well as focus on individual pieces to showcase their remarkable work and stunning detail in gemstone pieces. As part of the video, to help introduce viewers to the company, office Manager Delyth speaks directly to the camera, telling us about the company and what it stands for. We continued with a voice-over throughout the rest of the film. This really helps the viewer stay interested and engaged, with more of a human-like connection and experience, almost like Delyth is speaking directly to the person watching. This gives a more personal touch to the overall experience for the viewer.

You can find the full video by clicking here.

As a business, it’s so important for you to connect with your audience. What better way to do this than with video. Contact us with any filming requirements you may have and we would love to tailor a production to your needs, to help you connect in the right way to your clients.

Every member of our team is highly skilled, well established and respected in their field of expertise, whether that be camera work, audio engineering, directing, or producing. When you hire us as a company we will make sure everything is done to a highly professional standard and that you are 100% happy with the final outcome.

5th February 2020: Using video as part of your marketing strategy

Now, we aren’t marketers by any means, however we do understand the importance of video in marketing. Every business should ‘jump on board’ and implement video into their marketing strategy!

A recent study by Wyzowl:

  • 89% of video marketers say video gives then good ROI
  • 83% of video marketers say video helps them with lead generation
  • 87% of video marketers say video has increased traffic to their website
  • 80% of video marketers say video has directly helped increase sales
  • 95% of video marketers plan to increase or maintain video spend in 2020

One thing we can tell you is that good quality, professional video production is key. There are many ‘video production’ companies out there, but if you are going to market yourself as this, then you HAVE to know what you’re doing.

At Parallel Motion Media we have the knowledge and technical expertise to get the job done, always to a very high standard. Whatever your budget, we can produce content for you without compromising on quality

UPCOMING EVENTS

Thursday 31st October 2019  –  Procam Media Technology Day

7th January 2019: Documentary in Devon

Summer 2018, we were hired by an interior designer to film a short documentary series to showcase the intricate manufacturing process involved when creating bespoke pieces of furniture for the high-end consumer market. This furniture would eventually be installed on a 204ft luxury super yacht.

Pre-Production: Like with any production, good planning is essential. First thing was to look at the narrative, and decide on the angle we wanted to take and how we wanted the final piece to be perceived by the viewer.

From here we had to consider the best equipment to use. As we would be capturing fine details, 4K was preference. We also wanted a camera with a nice sensor, have a strong choice of recording formats to choose from, and can capture 10-bit 4:2:2. With all of this in mind we finally decided on using Sony FS7. Along with this we hired a SmallHD702 monitor – we were so impressed with this monitor the first time we used it that we had to use it again.

Lens wise, we chose the Canon CN-E 135mm f2.2, Canon 50mm f1.4, Samyang 14mm f2.8, and the Canon 24-105mm f4.

As for lighting, we decided to take 1x Arri 650w Fresnel, along with a SUMOLIGHT large panel LED, and an Litepanels Astra 1×1.

We have to thank our suppliers Soho Broadcast and Green Kit London. Always an exceptional service, and very knowledgeable team’s at both companies. We would highly recommend!

Production: The location for the shoot was at the William Garvey workshops in Devon, where all of the furniture was made.

The filming took place over 4 days, which we split into two trips – Once in the early manufacturing stages, and the second time during the final stages of production.

The initial set up each day took around 2-3 hours. This included lighting the first scene, cable rigging, camera and lens rigging. There was also various scenes throughout in different areas of the workshops, as we worked to a storyboard. For this, we had to set up lighting for each and every scene.

One highlight for the team was on the third day, we decided to get to the location around 6am to film sunrise. This turned into an amazing experience, and what a sight it was! Early morning sunrise in the Devonshire countryside – absolute bliss!

Shooting with the Sony FS7 was always our first choice, as we wanted the option to capture all footage in good S-LOG3. We chose the FS7 for various other reasons as well, including its 4K capabilities, size and weight including how quick it is to set up for handheld use.

Post-Production: This is such an exciting part of any project, although it can also be one of the most challenging. With any film or video project, you hope that everything captured is 100% accurate and nothing was missed!

However, we were very pleased with the results!

All editing was done using Adobe CC, Premiere Pro being the main software we used. It’s very user-friendly and efficient, with a full host of professional features, including the ability to full colour correct and grade. Of course though, for more in-depth grading, After Effects or Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve is the best option.
